What Comes to Light: Stories of Still Creek Lost & Found is a book project by Carmen Rosen with editorial assistance from Kaitlyn Fung and Bea Miller. Additional contributions were written, illustrated, and created by members of the Still Moon Arts Society as well as friends and residents of the neighbourhoods surrounding Still Creek in Vancouver. I collaborated closely with the artistic director and author Carmen Rosen to ensure their vision was expressed. I also provided the Still Moon team with advice for production and self-publishing.
This was an exciting and challenging project to work on as the manuscript included a wide variety of different writings and images. The manuscript included short essays, histories, memories, quotes, firsthand accounts, poetry, Indigenous words, scanned art, old maps, photographs both recent and archival, and other ephemera. I used an identical grid with similar techniques and repeating elements to create cohesion between the unique page spreads. The resulting book is a reflection of the Society and community of Still Creek: a mosaic and blend of different cultures, backgrounds, and life stories.
